Trams start from Cathedral Square (its north-west corner)and head west along Worcester Street either turning south into Oxford Terrace  or continuing west before turning north into Rolleston Avenue. 

Trams turning south turn from Oxford Terrace into Cashel Street and thence to their terminus in High Street.  Reversing the tram heads up High Street back to Cathedral Square.

Trams continuing along Worcester street turn north into Rolleston Avenue then east into Armaugh Street thence inmto New Regent Street, through the Cathedral Junction building and back to Cathedral Square.

No matter which route is taken, the tram returns to Cathedral Square and then takes the other route thus completing a full traverse of the line.
